Please Spare a Thought for the Windmill’s Future
Firstly, let’s reflect on our achievements so far. The fabulous response to our Sponsor a Board appeal raised over £18,000. This convinced Historic England to give us sufficient grant to restore the mill, including its tail assembly and sail frames such that by summer 2019 we will have a heritage site fit to welcome all to Great Chishill. |
This is wonderful, but, under the terms of our lease from the County Council, we have responsibility for the windmill until at least 2139! Clearly routine maintenance, grass cutting, insurance, etc. will require an annual expenditure and we will surely be faced with occasional minor and major repairs. The steering committee is working on bringing in a regular income through events and items for sale but one of the Friends of the Windmill has had a further idea. He has set up a monthly Standing Order with his bank to make a small donation each month. It struck us that if others would like to follow his lead we could establish a ‘sinking fund’ for those inevitable repairs.
So may we ask, please, if you would consider a Standing Order for the Windmill Trust on a regular basis? All contributions, no matter what size, will be very gratefully received. Regular donation quickly mounts; for the price of a magazine, £5 per month, we receive £75 each year with Gift Aid (if you are a UK tax payer). Don’t forget that, as we are a registered charity, you can declare any donations on your tax return.
If you would prefer not to give regularly but would still like to support us, we would, of course, be very grateful of any singular donation.
Our bank is Lloyd’s, sort code 30-99-50, account number 28192563 in the name Great Chishill Windmill Trust. Standing Orders are easily set up online or by printing and taking the form below to your branch. Please also send confirmation of your donation to [email protected]. Thank you very much!
