July 2017 Work began by filling the shakes in the trestle with WEST epoxy system.
July 2017 Removing the old boards revealed disconnection of joints and general rot
Aug 2017 The sail frames had to be removed and taken to a barn for restoration
The old bolts were removed in various states of decay, split sail bar ends glued, the whole assembly stripped and re-connected with stainless bolts. A lot of work for volunteers! The frames have also been painted since the photographs were taken.
Sept/Nov 2017 One stock was found to need repair and the weatherbeam had to be removed for routering of rotted areas and attachment of new green oak plates.
Jan 2018 By the start of the new year, the buck was beginning to shine once more.
June 2018 With striking new finish to its buck, the mill awaits work on tail and sails
May 2019 Sails on one stock are re-fitted. Waiting now for the other stock to be replaced (you can just make out the old rotten one lying on the ground).
